Ever since I was a child, stretching up to this very day, I have been in love with Bandai’s Digimon. The Anime series, the video games, the Virtual Pets, and even it’s Trading Card Game, it seems as though Digimon is just one of the few franchises that will stick with me for the rest of my life. Reading that alone, you can see why the next step into the Digital World, known as Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters, is so exciting to me, and people like myself, who simply cannot get enough of what the franchise has to offer.
Until today, I was convinced that the new Anime series, accompanied by the Video Game and merchandise related to it, would never make it outside of Japan, but it is thanks to Toei Animations news that I’m able to toss those thoughts out the window, replacing them with some more positive than the last: Perhaps you’ve never heard of this, but there is a yearly convention called “MIPCON” which is, in basic terms, a tradeshow that centres around television-based entertainment. Most notably…television shows. Well, Toei Animation have already outlined their addition to the tradeshow; alongside Dragon Ball Super and a new iteration of the classic Mazinger Anime (Mazinger Z), they will also be showcasing what seems to be an Western localised version of the new series Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters, referred to by them simply as “Digimon Universe: Appmonsters“.
Now it wouldn’t be right to confirm the series for a Western release outright…but the evidence is there. Not only will Dragon Ball Super be washing up on local shores in the near future, it will be bringing friends, one of which is DIGIMON UNIVERSE: APPMONSTERS! Is that not just the most exciting news!? It is to me! This means that if the series picks up enough steam and gains popularity that, much in the same way Yo-Kai Watch performed, Bandai will consider not only bringing series merchandise to the West, but also…the Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters Nintendo 3DS game. Though this is still somewhat small news, it’s a huge step in the right direction for the new Digimon.
