Avid readers of this site will know that I’m a sucker for crossover video game titles. Heck, crossover Anime, crossover Manga, crossover anything! So long as it has characters from different series’, different worlds, different realms, and different stories, I’m sold. Simple. Now, those same readers will also know that I’m not a fan of Sword Art Online, BUT that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate a good combination like this: Bandai Namco Entertainment today released a teaser trailer for their upcoming game Accel World VS Sword Art Online: Millennium Twilight, a game that will bring together the virtual realms of Reki Kawahara’s two most popular Light Novel series’.
In the past, these two stories have crossed over, several times actually, but never on a scale like this. The game is set for a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita release sometime next year, that date has yet to have been released, and it’s genre is still yet to be outlined. Despite the fact that the two series’ are quite similar, they’re based on different video game genres with Accel World being a brawler-type and Sword Art Online being an MMO, so realistically it would be hard to determine how exactly this game is going to play at this point in time.
The trailer gives away next to nothing, but shows the protagonists of each series appearing side-by-side in Alfheim which, for those of you who do not know, is a virtual world that appears in Sword Art Online. Perhaps this title will play like previous Sword Art Online video games with the heavy addition of Accel World characters. At this point in time, it’s too hard to tell. Regardless, it’s a thing, and we know that it’s going to be released across Japan sometime in the new year.
