To those of us out there who’ve read Kazue Kato’s Blue Exorcist Manga series, the idea that it would be adapted into an Anime series excited is greatly, but unfortunately the writing staff of said series took certain liberties with the story that attempted to give the series an ending, unfortunately it was butchered, and what it left audiences with was little more than a bad taste in their mouths. You see, reader, the Manga continued past the point of the Anime and lead into an Arc that, I believe, serves to this day as the series’ most extraordinary. While Shonen Jump greats like Naruto and Bleach have their Chunin Exam Arc and Rescue Rukia Arc respectively, it is Blue Exorcist’s Kyoto Impure King Arc that stands with the aforementioned on common ground.
It was announced some time ago that the Anime adaptation would be receiving a second season, which delighted some, but confused most because of the odd story shift towards the end of the first season. As it turns out, though, the writing staff are going to mostly ignore that to instead focus on doing justice to it’s source material. It was revealed today that the second season of the Blue Exorcist Anime will indeed focus on the Kyoto Impure King Arc which, differing from the previous Arcs, puts a great deal of emphasis on other characters, developing them in a multitude of ways and detailing to the audience why it is that they are who they are. A fine Arc indeed.
Jump S.Q., the Magazine that broke this news, also featured a synopsis of the upcoming Arc:
In the late Edo Period, a demon known as the Impure King killed thousands of people. After defeating the demon, the Knights of the True Cross kept its left eye safely sealed away on Academy grounds – but now someone has stolen it! Hearing the thief has taken a child hostage, Yukio and Rin go to help. The investigation and pursuit will lead Rin and his friends to Kyoto and involve them even deeper in a sinister plot! But will his friends’ knowledge that Rin is the son of Satan drive a wedge between them?
Blue Exorcist Season Two – Kyoto Impure King Arc will premiere on MBS across Japan in the January of 2017.
