Live Action ‘Sword Art Online’ TV Show Announced

Dueling Sparks

Skydance Media have just announced that they have acquired the global rights to produce a live-action television series based upon the mega hit anime series Sword Art Online. For fans of the series this is either the greatest thing ever or the worst, as is often the case with the growing line up of live action anime projects.

The live-action adaptation of Sword Art Online is said to be on the fast track for a launch in the United States, with Skydance Media’s Television division banking on the series sharing the baffling success of the original anime series.

For those interested as to who exactly Skydance Media are, you may have seen a couple of the films they have produced such as: Terminator Genisys, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and World War Z.

The adaptation is set to be penned and executive produced by Laeta Kalogridis of Avatar and Terminator Genisys infamy. Kalogridis commented on the project saying; “For years… I’ve been inspired by the inventive and masterful storytelling of the SAO franchise.” It is unknown at this time is Kalogridis has in fact watched Sword Art Online, however in this writers opinion, the comment implies she has most certainly not.

No other details have been confirmed for the adaptation as of time of posting, that said we will be sure to keep you up to date as more news on this ‘exciting’ project develops.
