When you co-run a website dedicated to Japanese Pop Culture, you tend to be somewhat ahead of the curve when it comes to localised releases of video games that have, for all intents and purposes, been released for quite some time. Prior to the first Yo-Kai Watch game being made available in the West, us here at SnapThirty were already very much into the game’s sequel which, thanks to Nintendo who released this information today, will be making it’s way to North America on the 30th of September with a yet undisclosed release elsewhere to come sometime after that. Yo-Kai Watch 2 will hit local shores alongside the second Anime season which should, once again, air on Disney X D much like that of the prior season.
Reminiscent of Pokemon, the sequel will come in two different versions; Boney Spirits, and Fleshy Souls. Each of the different versions will come with over one hundred new Yo-Kai to befriend, with certain Yo-Kai only being available on one of two of the different versions. Hasbro, already having the Western license for the video game series’ merchandise, is already planning to release more Yo-Kai Watch products including the new Yo-Kai Watch featured in the game, a new series of Yo-Kai medals, and a new wave of figurines, new plush dolls, and the Yo-Kai Watch Trading Card Game, amongst much more.
Level-5’s international representative had this to say regarding the new Anime season set to air this Summer (North America):
This season, join Nate, Whisper and Jibanyan as they get the new Yo-kai Watch Model Zero. But just because he has a new watch, that doesn’t mean Nate’s life will get any easier. Season 2 has more Yo-kai, more miniseries, more episodes and, most importantly, more laughs! Tune in to see how a new cast of Yo-kai interrupts Nate’s normal life in unexpected and hilarious ways.
Yo-Kai Watch 2 will still be set in Springdale, which you should know well from the events of the first game, but this time there will be much more to explore. Not only will you be biking around the town centre like you have in the past, you will also be given access to surrounding areas that may or may not necessarily belong within the town’s borders. Yo-Kai Watch 2 also features a storyline that will allow you to travel through time, collecting many different Yo-Kai whilst seeing some oddly familiar faces.
The first Yo-Kai Watch was absolutely brilliant! Each of us here at SnapThirty has quite a grand love for the series, so as you can imagine; we’re pretty damn excited for the game’s sequel. Hopefully soon enough we’ll be hearing word of it’s arrival across Australia and New Zealand, but until that happens at least we know that it IS on it’s way.
