The concept of a God is already quite frightening. While it gives many religious-types around the world a large sense of solace, simply pondering the metaphysical presence of an unearthly deity is mind-boggling. Now think about a God that would let an A-Grade piece of Vampiric garbage like Dio Brando into Heaven…is that a God you want to follow? Hell no! Why? Because if it has let Dio through those pearly gates and into Nirvana, I can imagine who else is waiting up there for our arrival.
The upcoming Bandai Namco Entertainment title JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven is a follow up fighting game to the previously released All-Star Battle, both of which allow players to slot themselves into the shoes of their favorite JJBA characters and duke it out Stand-style in ways only the character cast of this oddball series knows.
The Japanese pop culture magazine Ultra Jump has this week revealed a brand-new character that will be playable in the upcoming game, and while he is technically brand-new…he’s a guy we’ve seen many times before. DIO was scary enough as a Vampire with the power to stop time but in the latest game, thanks to Jotaro’s fatal blow at the end of Stardust Crusaders, DIO has passed on to the afterlife. Some would say that he found his place in Hell, locked away for eternity forced to experience the pain he so put others through so flippantly. Aparantly that’s not the case. DIO, shortly after death, arrived…in Heaven, wherein which he evolves to become none other than “DIO Who Has Arrived In Heaven“. Yeah, real imaginative.
The magazine didn’t get into much detail regarding the specifics of DIOs character, though we do now that his Stand is no longer called The World, it is instead called “The World Over Heaven” which, much like DIOs new title, is a little on the nose. It’s fine though, because who the hell is going to argue with a DIO of this calibre? Not me, I wouldn’t dare! I think he’s a God now…
Fact is; the story mode of the upcoming game is being monitored by series creator Hirohiko Araki himself, so in a weird way…this is Canon. Maybe. I can’t say for sure. Fans of the long-running series are speculating that this version of DIO is, in fact, not the one that was killed by Jotaro Kujo but the one that did the killing back in Egypt. Having defeated Kujo and the rest of the Stardust Crusaders crew, DIO was able to complete his long-winded plan by blood-sucking his way to full power, eventually meeting up with the aforementioned Enrico Pucci and getting on with his plan for universal domination, eventually become “DIO Who Has Arrived In Heaven” despite that he may have never actually made it to Heaven in the traditional sense but the Heaven he referenced many times throughout his diary. If you’re confused at this point in time, don’t stress, this is some deep story talk.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven is set to release across Japan for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on the 17th of December. I can say for certain that the game will indeed reach local shores seeing as the previous title did, what I cannot say is when, but chances are it’ll be sometime next year. Either way, you’d better start preparing to face a DIO who’s evil aspirations have actually become a reality, so dust of your copy of All-Star Battle and start practicing. Chances are…you wont make it out alive.
