Junji Ito Revealed To Have Been Working Alongside Kojima And Del Toro For Silent Hills

How much more upsetting could the cancellation of Silent Hills possibly get?

Mid to late last year, a mysterious playable demo for a brand-new game was released on the PlayStation 4. Labelled “P.T.“, nobody really knew exactly what game this was a demo for…until the very end, when it revealed itself to be the love child of modern day pop cultures’ most brilliant minds. The video game was Silent Hills and it brought together video game and silver screen royalty; Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro, alongside one of the more popular survival-type actors Norman Reedus, most famous as Daryl Dixon from AMC’s The Walking Dead.

With these three onboard, and clear evidence of the game’s greatness thanks to the playable demo, Silent Hills was looking be one of the most anticipated games of the near future. That is, until it was cancelled by Konami who seem to be doing some strange stuff as of late. Despite it’s cancellation, Del Toro assured audiences of it’s continuing development process but, since then, we’ve not heard a single thing about the game that could’ve been; Silent Hills.

Actually, we have heard one thing, as of late; that famed horror Mangaka Junji Ito was working closely with the aforementioned directors, both film and video game, as quite a heavy collaborator. What could make Silent Hills scarier than what it was in the original games? How about the inclusion of a world-renowned horror writer/illustrator famous for Mangas like Gyo and Uzumaki, as well as a slew of frightening short stories each more horrific than the last? Yeah, that seems like it’d make the game a little harder to play.

Guillermo Del Toro only recently started up his very own Twitter account and one of the first few dozen Tweets was regarding Ito’s work on the would-be title stating that he was indeed working closely with the team for the game. Del Toro, as proven from former interviews, is quite a fan of Junji Ito’s work and, much like Kojima and Reedus, was compelled to want to work alongside him to a larger capacity. In the past, Del Toro has stated that; “Junji Ito is the only author of comics that has scared the shit out of me. When the shark takes the stairs in Gyo, grows the mechanical crab legs chasing them up the stairs, I literally threw away the comic and yelled, ‘NO!’ I was so absolutely scared”.

A short recap: Junji Ito was working alongside Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro for a game starring Norman Reedus, which was cancelled for reasons, so far, unknown…is the world going mad? This could have been one of THE greatest horror games of all times, and it’s now been placed in a realm we like to call “Development Hell“. Who knows? Del Toro could be preparing an announcement regarding the game’s return right as you’re reading this, or it could be in development for the next 25 years like 2015’s blockbuster film Mad Max: Fury Road, only to be released at a time when the world truly needs it. Regardless of specifics, I believe people just want to see this game EVENTUALLY, is that too much to ask?
