About a week ago, through the Japanese video game magazine “Famitsu”, a screenshot from the upcoming ATLUS RPG remake “Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker” was shown alongside some information that detailed a crossover between this game and the Anime/Light Novel series “Durarara!!” that has three of the more popular and powerful characters appearing as demons. Not much was said in the short description of the crossover, all that had been said was that the characters would appear in the game but what you could do with them still remained somewhat a mystery.
ATLUS has, over the weekend, released two new trailers for “Record Breaker”: One goes over the StreetPass functionality of the remake while the other happens to tell audiences a little more about what we can expect from the crossover. Celty, Izaya and Shizuo will appear in “Record Breaker” as powerful demons that you can obtain through the Nintendo 3DS’ SpotPass functionality much like what has been implemented in the last few “Pokemon” video games. Each of the characters will come with their own set of personalised skills that, while similar to standard techniques, can only be learnt and used by them, making the trio a must-have for those of you out there who enjoy utter decimation.
The distribution schedule is as follows (Japan only):
- Izaya Orihara – January 29th to January 4th.
- Shizuo Heiwajima – February 5th to February 11th.
- Headless Rider Celty – February 12th to February 18th.
The other trailer, outlining what the StreetPass in “Record Breaker” can do, simply explains that when you pass another person with the same game, their information will be recorded and one of the stats of your demon’s allies will be increased. This means the more people you pass, the stronger they’ll become so it’s suggested you carry the game around with you wherever you can. you don’t want to be missing out on all those free boosts.
Japan will be getting the game on the 29th of this month and the rest of the world SHOULD be getting it sometime after that. It is unsure as of right now whether or not the West will be seeing this “Durarara!!” crossover and although many wish for it to happen it is apparently very unlikely that we’ll get the chance to fight along the most powerful trio of Ikebukuro. Luckily Luke Halliday, my fellow writer, will be going to Japan soon where he hopes to go to Ikebukuro. I’ll speak with him and maybe he can talk to Celty and the crew personally to try and make a change.
