The gorgeous Scarlett Johansson is no stranger to playing kick-arse femme fatales and she’s definitely no stranger to performing in some of modern history’s most exciting science-fiction films so it only makes sense that she’d sign on to play Miss Motoko Kusanagi for the live-action film adaptation of the much-loved franchise “Ghost In The Shell”.
Set in a distant future ruled by the omnipotence of bleeding edge technologies, “Ghost In The Shell” follows the stories of the law-enforcing cyborg Motoko Kusanagi as she comes into contact with good robots gone bad and everything else you could imagine existing in a world overpopulated by future technologies.
Mrs. Johansson apparently wasn’t sure whether or not she wanted to take the role which is understandable seeing as Hollywood hasn’t exactly done much with Japanese Pop Culture adaptations but I’m sure it was somewhat the success of “Edge Of Tomorrow” that gave her a little more confidence in the role.
Hopefully her connection to the project means it will go through a swift green-lighting process which will eventually mean we’ll be able to see this production in its full glory.
I, for one, love the idea of a Hollywood Anime adaptation because it may just signify the beginning of a trend that will hopefully result in some fantastic films that both Western and Japanese audiences can love. As of right now, filming hasn’t even begun. We don’t know when it will begin which means we don’t know when the film will get a release so stick around on the site and when news breaks you can be sure it’ll be featured here.
