I’m sure you’re more than aware but there was indeed a time in the “Naruto” universe where our hero simply wasn’t around. It was an angsty time for young Naruto and Sasuke who both left the village after a mighty battle wherein which the boys taught each other a true lesson about power and emotion. Sasuke left to do his own thing, joining Orochimaru who promised him a level of power that no one else could provide, with the goal that he would one day return to the Hidden Leaf Village and burn it to the ground.
Naruto, on the other hand, left with one of the other legendary Sannin Jiraiya who spent two years training our hero to be the man he is today. Two similar paths that are also worlds apart: A fantastic metaphor for the relationship that these two young boys shared together.
Just because the two characters left the village they grew up in, doesn’t mean that nothing happened while they were gone. Actually, according to this announcement, a great deal happened when they were gone and just because the events were never detailed to Naruto upon his return doesn’t mean the people involved didn’t go through it. Announced just today is a new “Naruto” Anime arc titled “Chunin Exam Arc” which is set to air in January of 2015.
This arc will cover the Chunin Exams, if you couldn’t already tell, which were held in the Hidden Sand Village and will feature some of the series’ most loved characters like Rock-Lee, Hinata, Kiba, Neji, Choji and the rest of the characters that don’t entirely get enough screen time when Naruto is around. Appearing alongside these characters are a whole bunch of originals who’re also participating in the Chunin Exams, one of which happens to be another Jinchuriki much like Naruto.
Fu, who hosts the massive power of the Seven Tails, will play a pivotal part in the new arc alongside the main cast from the Hidden Leaf Village. Like any “Naruto” arc, what we’ll be seeing wont JUST be the exams. Oh no, there’s evil on the horizon and even though we don’t quite know what that evil is right now you can bet it’s going to interrupt the celebrations of an Ninja exam period just like the last time.
Some people have begun speculating that, due to the inclusion of a Jinchuriki, the Akatsuki are going to be heavily involved as the antagonists of the arc but that has yet to have been confirmed so, as of right now, it’s just a big guess. Either way, news of this arc has already split the “Naruto” fandom with half liking the idea and the other half absolutely hating it. I’m not sure why though.
Honestly, and this is coming from a man who was over “Naruto” years ago…I’m kind of interested in what it has to offer. Not having the titular character included in an arc like this means the other characters will get some time to shine I’m quite curious to see just how they’ll do with a bit of extra added responsibility on their shoulders. I’m also a huge fan of exam storylines so this is right up my alley. The only question is; can a second Chunin Exam arc be done as wonderfully as the first Chunin Exam arc? I, for one, hope so very much.
