The legend himself

The official YouTube channel for the Academy Awards (it’s alright, I didn’t know they had one either) has recently posted a video that showcases Hayao Miyazaki accepting his honourary Oscar at the governor’s Award Ceremony. In his short speech, Miyazaki expressed how lucky he feels to have been involved in the final era of pencil and paper production, as well as the peace he has enjoyed in his life. John Lasseter (Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer) also gave a speech honouring his friend Miyazaki and declared him one of the two most important figures in the film world, alongside Walt Disney.

“to honour extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the Academy.”
