Cosplayer Shot Dead by US Police

Tragic news has just come through with SBS reporting that an innocent cosplayer has been shot dead in cold blood at shopping mall in Saratoga Springs, Utah. Equally shocking is the fact that the men who pulled the trigger were Saratoga Springs police officers.

At the time of his death, the cosplayer, Darrien Hunt, a young man aged only 22, was cosplaying as a sword-wielding anime character, apparently from the popular anime and manga series Bleach.

Police retain that shots were fired when Hunt apparently lunged at them with a sword, despite the fact that autopsy reports pertain that Hunt was shot a total of 6 times in the back, dying instantly. On top of that, the sword in question was merely a plastic replica. All of which brings into question the motives of the police officers for this cold blooded fatal act on an innocent man.

The Hunt family’s lawyer Randall Edwards commented on the incident stating, “I just can’t believe that this kid in the costume was somehow posing such a threat to the officers or everybody else that deadly force was the first and only option,”

At the young man’s funeral his family remembered him as “a shy, gentle man who loved art and music and was trying to navigate a difficult transition into adulthood.”

An internal investigation is said to be underway regarding the incident and the officers who committed this unjustifiable and hideous act of murder on a man who did nothing more than cosplay a character from his favourite anime. Stay tuned for more information on this developing situation as it comes to light.

What is happening? Where do these officers get the confidence to unload 6 rounds into a young man for doing something that is seen almost every single day around the world? Cosplay is a ‘thing’! You’d surely think these ‘officers of the law’ would be smart enough to look at a situation and understand it properly before acting: Young man, around the age of 20, wearing what looks to be a samurai outfit holding a huge sword that, considering the weight it would be, would surely have to be plastic or wood for a man his size to carry. This is…this is ridiculous.

  2. I’m tired of gun-happy cops. I hope the murderers get more than a tap on the wrist.

  3. This is horrible, I can’t believe these police officers would be dumb enough to immediately use force. I agree with the previous commenters. I send my condolences to his family.

  4. This is disgusting.
How could they do that? How could they even try to justify that? It’s evil.
Condolences to his family. I hope the other prop wielding cosplayers were all right too.
